Hello, my dear children! I am Noah, and I have a wonderful story to share with you today – a story about God's amazing love and a beautiful promise He made to all of us never to destroy the earth by a flood.  Read on to learn more about God's promise and the rainbow sign.

Let's Review the Great Flood and a New Beginning

Do you remember the previous stories in which I told you how, a long, long time ago, the world had became a very sad place? People were not being kind to each other, and their hearts were filled with naughtiness. God was very, very sad to see all of this. He decided that He needed to wash away all the bad things and start fresh.

So, God told me, Noah, to build a very big boat, an ark!

I worked so hard, and you know what? God also told me to bring two of every kind of animal onto the ark, a boy and a girl! Can you imagine all the sounds we heard inside? Roars, squeaks, chirps, and meows!

Then, the rain came! It rained and rained for forty days and forty nights! The waters covered everything, but inside the ark, we were safe. God protected us and all the animals.

After many, many days, the rain stopped, and the waters slowly went down. Finally, our ark rested on a mountain, and we could see dry land again! Oh, how thankful we were to God! When we came out of the ark, I built an altar and offered a sacrifice to God, thanking Him for saving us. God was very pleased with our thankfulness.

God's Everlasting Promise

Then, something truly amazing happened! God spoke to me and to my sons, Shem, Ham, and Japheth. He also spoke to all the animals that were with us. God said, "Look! I am making a promise to you and to all your children, and to all the animals that are with you – to every living creature on the earth."

What was this wonderful promise? God said, "I promise that never again will a flood destroy all living things. Never again will there be a flood to wipe out the earth." Isn't that incredible? God made this promise for all time!

God's Everlasting Promise and the Rainbow Sign Bible Verses - Genesis 9: 8 - 15.

8 Then God spoke to Noah and to his sons with him, saying: 

9 “And as for Me, behold, I establish My covenant with you and with your  descendants after you, 

10 and with every living creature that is with you: the birds, the cattle, and every beast of the earth with you, of all that go out of the ark, every beast of the earth. 

11 Thus I establish My covenant with you: Never again shall all flesh be cut off by the waters of the flood; never again shall there be a flood to destroy the earth.”

12 And God said: “This is the sign of the covenant which I make between Me and you, and every living creature that is with you, for perpetual generations: 

13 I set My rainbow in the cloud, and it shall be for the sign of the covenant between Me and the earth. 

14 It shall be, when I bring a cloud over the earth, that the rainbow shall be seen in the cloud; 

15 and I will remember My covenant which is between Me and you and every living creature of all flesh; the waters shall never again become a flood to destroy all flesh. 

16 The rainbow shall be in the cloud, and I will look on it to remember the everlasting covenant between God and every living creature of all flesh that is on the earth.” 

17 And God said to Noah, “This is the sign of the covenant which I have established between Me and all flesh that is on the earth.”

The Sign in the Sky: The Rainbow!

And how would we remember this amazing promise? God said, "I will put my bow in the clouds, and it will be a sign of the covenant between me and the earth."

Can you guess what that bow is? Yes, it's the beautiful rainbow!

God continued, "Whenever I bring clouds over the earth and the rainbow appears in the clouds, I will remember my covenant between me and you and all living creatures of every kind. Never again will the waters become a flood to destroy all life."

So, every time we see a rainbow, it's like God is reminding Himself, and reminding us, of His special promise! He even repeated it, saying, "Whenever the bow appears in the clouds, I will see it and remember the everlasting covenant between God and all living creatures of every kind on the earth."

How Does a Rainbow Work?

Have you ever wondered how those beautiful colors get into the sky?It's a little bit of  beauty from God's amazing creation! You see, the sunlight, which looks white to us, is actually made up of many different colors, like red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, and violet.

When sunlight shines through tiny raindrops in the air, the raindrops act like tiny little prisms. They bend the light and split it into all these beautiful colors, making a big, colorful arc in the sky! Isn't that clever? God used something so simple and natural to make such a magnificent sign of His promise.

God is Always Faithful

This story teaches us something very important about God: He is always faithful! When God makes a promise, He keeps it, forever and ever. Every time we see a rainbow, we are reminded of God's unchanging love and His promise never to destroy the earth with a flood. It's like a big, colorful hug from God in the sky!

A Journey Remembered: The Waters Recede

My dear children, gather 'round! Do you remember our grand adventure? Do you recall the mighty ark, floating on the vast, wide waters? The world was covered, wasn't it? But God, in His great love, kept us safe inside that strong boat – my family, and all the animals too!

It was a long time, but God always remembered us. He sent a wind to blow over the earth, and slowly, slowly, the waters began to go down. First, we saw the tops of the mountains, then more and more dry land! Oh, what a sight that was!

Stepping Onto New Earth

We sent out a raven, do you remember? And then a dove. The first dove came back, but the second one brought a fresh olive leaf! What did that mean, my little ones? It meant new life! It meant the earth was ready for us again! And finally, God spoke to me, saying, "Go out from the ark, you and your wife, and your sons and your sons' wives with you. Bring out with you every living thing that is with you of all flesh..." (Genesis 8:16-17, ESV).

And so we did! We all stepped out onto the fresh, clean earth. The birds flew, the animals scampered, and my family and I breathed in the sweet, fresh air. It was a brand new beginning! Can you imagine how happy we were? Can you feel the joy in our hearts?

Then Noah built an altar to the LORD and took some of every clean animal and some of every clean bird and offered burnt offerings on the altar.

And when the LORD smelled the pleasing aroma, the LORD said in his heart, “I will never again curse[fn] the ground because of man, for the intention of man’s heart is evil from his youth. Neither will I ever again strike down every living creature as I have done.

While the earth remains, seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, day and night, shall not cease.”

My Heart Was Full of Thanks to God

Now, when we stepped out, my heart was overflowing with gratitude. I thought, "How can I thank God enough for saving us and keeping us safe through such a mighty storm?" I built an altar and gave an offering to God:

"Then Noah built an altar to the Lord and took some of every clean animal and some of every clean bird and offered burnt offerings on the altar." (Genesis 8:20, ESV).

Do you know what an altar is? It's a special place we built in those days to show God our worship and our love. We built it with stones, carefully piled high. And then, we gave an offering of some of the animals and birds to God. 

This was our way ancient people gave offerings to God. This is how we told God a big, "Thank You, God!" It was a sacrifice of thanksgiving, showing Him that we recognized His great power and His amazing kindness.

God's Promise and Delight With Our Offerings

And what did God do, children? He became pleased when He smelled the odor of my offering:

"And when the Lord smelled the pleasing aroma, the Lord said in his heart, 'I will never again curse the ground because of man, for the intention of man's heart is evil from his youth. Neither will I ever again strike down every living creature as I have done.

 

While the earth remains, seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, day and night, shall not cease.'" (Genesis 8:21-22, ESV).

God smelled our offering, and it was a "pleasing aroma" to Him. This means God was pleased with our thankfulness! He was happy that we remembered His goodness and showed Him our love. And in His heart, He made a wonderful promise. God promised that He would never again destroy all living things with a flood. He promised that the seasons would always come and go – planting time and harvest time, cold and warm, summer and winter, day and night – always, as long as the earth lasts! Isn't that an incredible promise?

A Look Back at Our Journey So Far

Hello, my dear children! Do you remember me? I'm Noah! You know, the one who built that really, really big boat – the Ark!

God saw that the world was full of evil and decided to wash it clean with a great flood. But He saw that I tried my best to live for Him, so He chose me and my family to be safe. He told me to build a huge boat, the Ark, and bring two of every kind of animal inside, along with seven pairs of the clean animals!

Noah Stepped Out Unto The New Earth Bible Verses

Gen 8:13

And it came to pass in the six hundred and first year, in the first month, the first day of the month, that the waters were dried up from the earth; and Noah removed the covering of the ark and looked, and indeed the surface of the ground was dry.

Gen 8:14

And in the second month, on the twenty-seventh day of the month, the earth was dried.

Gen 8:15

Then God spoke to Noah, saying,

Gen 8:16

“Go out of the ark, you and your wife, and your sons and your sons’ wives with you.

Gen 8:17

“Bring out with you every living thing of all flesh that is with you: birds and cattle and every creeping thing that creeps on the earth, so that they may abound on the earth, and be fruitful and multiply on the earth.”

So Noah went out, and his sons and his wife and his sons’ wives with him.

The Ground Dries and Hope Returns

Now, let me tell you what happened next. We had been on the Ark for a whole year and ten days! Imagine that! One year and ten days, floating on the water.

In the first month, on the first day, the waters had finally dried up from the earth. I carefully opened the covering of the Ark and looked out. Oh, what a sight! The surface of the ground was dry! Can you imagine how excited we all were? We had seen so much water for so long.

"Is it truly dry enough?" I wondered aloud. We still waited, patiently. You see, even though the surface looked dry, the ground underneath needed to be firm and ready for us to walk on and for plants to grow. 

The Ark rested on Mount Ararat

Children, in the ancient world, "Ararat" referred to a large region (the Kingdom of Urartu) rather than just a single peak. This area is located in what is now eastern Turkey, near the borders of Armenia and Iran.

Why the Mountains of Ararat?

• High Ground: Ararat is one of the highest regions in that part of the world, making it the first place to emerge as the floodwaters began to recede.

• Geology: The area is characterized by volcanic peaks and rugged terrain. The soil in these volcanic regions is often very rich. That was helpful for me wI began to plant vineyards and crops again.

• Archaeology: Over the centuries, many explorers have searched these mountains for physical remains of the Ark. While several interesting formations have been found (such as the Durupınar site), the exact location of the ark remains a topic of great debate among scientists and historians.

A New Beginning

Imagine the view from those high peaks! From that height, Noah and his family could watch the water slowly drain away into the valleys below, revealing a world that was fresh, clean, and ready for a new start.

God's Command: "Come Out!"

And then, on the twenty-seventh day of the second month, God spoke to me! It was the most wonderful sound!

He said, "Noah, come out of the Ark, you and your wife, and your sons and your sons' wives with you. Bring out with you every living thing of all flesh that is with you: birds and cattle and every creeping thing that creeps on the earth, so that they may abound on the earth, and be fruitful and multiply on the earth."

Oh, what a joyful command! We had waited so long for these words! It was time to step out into a brand-new world, a world made fresh and clean by God.

Stepping onto New Earth!

So, out we came! First, I stepped out, then my wife. Our sons, Shem, Ham, and Japheth, and their wives followed. Then came all the animals! Can you picture it? The lions, the elephants, the giraffes, the little mice, the birds soaring into the sky!

They all spread out, stretching their legs, sniffing the fresh air, and enjoying the wide-open spaces after being cooped up for so long. It was a beautiful, noisy, wonderful parade!

An Offering of Thanks

The first thing I did, as soon as we were all safely out, was to build an altar to the Lord.

I took some of the clean animals and some of the clean birds, and I offered them on the altar. It was my way of saying a huge "Thank You!" to God for keeping us safe and for His wonderful plan.

And the Lord smelled the sweet aroma. It pleased Him so much! He said in His heart, "I will never again curse the ground for man's sake, although the imagination of man's heart is evil from his youth; nor will I again destroy every living thing as I have done."

What a promise! God promised that He would never again flood the entire earth to destroy all living creatures. And what was the sign of this promise? A beautiful rainbow in the sky!
