Jesus' Parable Of Salt

 Jesus' parable of salt

Today we're learning about Jesus' parable of salt and light which He taught to His disciples on a mountain.  Salt is a very important substance that is made from forty percent sodium and sixty percent chloride.

Salt is very important to humans for several reasons. First, it adds flavor to food. Food just does not taste the same without salt.  People who cook food usually add a certain amount to most dishes to improve the way it tastes.

Secondly. salt kills germs and it protects food from spoilage.

Finally, the human body needs a certain amount of salt in order to carry out some of its activities.

Keep all of these benefits of salt in mind when you think about Jesus' parable of salt and light\.

Jesus' parable of salt scriptures

This parable le is found in Matthew 5: 13:

13 ``You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt has become tasteless, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled under foot by men.

Jesus' parable of salt meaning

Jesus told His disciples that His children are salt in the earth. In other words, children of God add flavor to the world and make it a pleasant place for everyone around us.

We are salt when we show others how being like Christ is such a blessing and a wonderful thing.

We can be salt by asking Jesus to make us like Him. According to Galatians 5: 22 and 23, Jesus is:

  • loving or kind
  • joyful and not sad
  • peaceful and not a lover of fighting and wars
  • longsuffering or patient
  • gentle and not rough
  • good and not mean
  • meek and not pompous. This means that Jesus does not benave as if He is better than anyone else
  • not a doubter, but has faith in  God
  • temperate and not easily angered. He keeps His temper under control and does not scream and yell when He cannot have His way.

Our conversation must be seasoned with salt

Speaking pleasant and gracious words is another way that children of God can be salt in the world.  Jesus wants us to use this approach of speaking politely and pleasantly instead of using rough and unkind words.

That would please God very much and help other people to see His kindness in us:

Let your speech always be gracious, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how you ought to answer each person (Colossians 4: 6).

How can I be salt like Jesus wants me to be?

First, we must confess to the Lord that we are sinners. We must tell Him that we have not been salt because His Spirit does not dwell in us.

We must believe that He is God and that He died on the cross to save us from sins and to make us His children.

We must confess that God raised Jesus from the dead in order for us to live again.

Finally, tell Him that you will love Him, and that you will obey His Word.

When you do, Jesus will enter your life by His Spirit and make you just like Him. He will make you salt in the earth as you read and obey His Words.
