Jesus Healed A Centurion's Servant

Jesus Healed A Centurion's Servant

Jesus healed a Centurion's servant is a wonderful account in which Jesus made a sick man well.  The centurion was not from Israel. He was a foreigner from a country called Italy.

He was called a centurion because he was a soldier and commanded one hundred soldiers. The centurion was an important person and understood military commands and authority.

The Roman centurion had a servant who had become paralyzed. The servant lay in terrible pain and was close to dying.

The Centurion and his soldiers were garrisoned just outside Capernaum, the town where Jesus was staying as he taught around Galilee.

The Centurion went to some respected Jewish leaders in Capernaum  and asked them to plead with Jesus to come and heal his servant

The leaders went to Jesus and begged, ‘If anyone deserves your help, this Centurion does for he loves the Jewish people and even built a synagogue for us.’

Jesus went towards the Roman centurion's house, although Jews would not normally go into the house of a non-Jew. Just before Jesus came to the house the Centurion sent some friends with a message for Jesus.

Lord, don’t trouble yourself by coming to my home, for I am not worthy of such an honor or meeting you. Just say the word from where you are, and my servant will be healed.

I am under the authority of my superior officers, and I have authority over my soldiers.

I only need to say, “Go,” and they go, or “Come,” and  they come. If I say to my servants, “Do this,” they do it.’

When Jesus heard this, he was amazed.

Turning to the crowd that was following him, he said, ‘I tell you, I haven’t seen faith like this in all Israel!’

When the officer’s friends returned to his house, they found the servant completely healed.

Jesus Healed A Centurion's Servant bible verses Luke 7: 1 - 10.

1 After he had finished all his sayings in the hearing of the people, he entered Capernaum.

2 Now a centurion had a servant who was sick and at the point of death, who was highly valued by him.

3 When the centurion  heard about Jesus, he sent to him elders of the Jews, asking him to come and heal his servant.

4 And when they came to Jesus, they pleaded with him earnestly, saying, “He is worthy to have you do this for him,

5 for he loves our nation, and he is the one who built us our synagogue.”

6 And Jesus went with them. When he was not far from the house, the centurion sent friends, saying to him, “Lord, do not trouble yourself, for I am not worthy to have you come under my roof.

7 Therefore I did not presume to come to you. But say the word, and let my servant be healed.

8 For I too am a man set under authority, with soldiers under me: and I say to one, ‘Go,’ and he goes; and to another, ‘Come,’ and he comes; and to my servant, ‘Do this,’ and he does it.”

9 When Jesus heard these things, he marveled at him, and turning to the crowd that followed him, said, “I tell you, not even in Israel have I found such faith.”

10 And when those who had been sent returned to the house, they found the servant well.
